All About Me
  1. Golf Achievements: There are many ways to measure achievement.  For example, I won the Junior Club Championship for Boise City five years in a row. I made my first Hole-In-One on August 2009.  Hole 8, par 3, Warm Springs GC, Boise, Idaho. I have qualified for every State Junior event including championships since I was five years old.  I was selected for the high school golf team as a freshman and qualified for this year's State tournament. I was elected as Captain of my high school golf team this year. I have placed highly in and won a number of golf events over the years.  Perhaps one of the best yardsticks to measure achievement is overall improvement and the drive to get better.  I began to focus on golf, as my primary sport, a couple of years ago.  I worked hard and reduced my handicap by six strokes.  My achievement goal is, however, to continue to cut strokes off my game and improve each year.
  2. Other Achievements: Since being elected to the student leadership and mentoring class at school, I have received recognition for communication skills and service work but also have the responsibility for helping "at risk" kids.  As a junior in high school, I was elected  President of Key Club (the main volunteer program at my high school).  I am an active volunteer at my church. I play the piano. I work part-time at my home course, Warm Springs.  I consider one of my best achievements in life as being a great teammate and loyal and supportive friend.
  3. Attributes that will make me a good college student-athlete golfer: I have the ability to interact well with teachers, coaches & students. I work hard and try to do my best each day.  I have the ability to grind it out in school or golf even if I have a tough day. I don't give up. I love to laugh and make others laugh which helps everyone through rough spots in school or on the course.  Tim Mahoney (golf coach) said the attributes that make me a great student athlete are my: ability to prepare, ability to balance schedule, understanding the importance of education, discipline away from school & golf, solidness of golf swing, ability to handle pressure. Adam Martens (golf coach) said I am well rounded as an athlete and person and I have stayed busy throughout high school with involvement in mutliple sports as well as different volunteer activities while maintaining my grades.
  4. I will be a good college teammate because: Team sports are successful when each member of the team works hard, practices hard and strives to make himself and his teammates better. Those are the attributes that I strive for when playing a team sport. I have the ability to pick up a team member when they are having a bad day or game and give them the momentum they need to finish, gain confidence and do their personal best. Tim Mahoney (golf coach) believes I will make a good teammate beacuse I have participated in team sports, am always in a positive mind frame, have a sense of humor, am a good student and a great role model. Adam Martens (golf coach) believes I have an attracting personality. He said people are drawn to me and I am very engaging and able to easily hold a conversation with a variety of age groups. He thinks I am a fun and easy person to be around and that's important with the amount of time that teammates spend practicing and traveling together.
  5. I am looking for a university and golf program that: I am looking for a university and golf program that work together to help create a well-rounded and successful student/athlete.  The combining of intellectual and physical challenges is an exciting prospect for me.  A school and golf program that both focus on success is where I will  work and practice very hard.
  6. My college goals are: My college goals are many and include:
    a)  obtain knowledge and skills
    b)  obtain a degree
    c)  play on a competitive golf team and contribute to the team's success
    d)  obtain an education that will assist me in a career in the golf industry or prepare me for applying to law school.  After all, Bobby Jones successfully blended the two disciplines.
  7. I am looking for a college golf coach that: I am looking for a college golf coach that has high standards and good motivation and personal skills. A coach that teaches, is personable and enjoys the interaction with his student athletes.  I want him to push me to my full potential. I also think that there are many demands to being a student-athlete and having a coach that can help guide his athletes through their collegiate career would be beneficial.
  8. The strengths of my golf game are: I am able to easily generate a significant amount of swing speed.  Therefore, I drive the ball long off the tee and typically have shorter irons into the greens which allows me to be more aggresive on my approach shots.  I am a very solid putter and have a pretty fearless mentality on the greens.  Adam Martens (golf coach) said that because I have a strong belief in my abilities, it allows me to pull off some very difficult shots.
I am also convinced that physical fitness and athletic ability are also my strengths.  I lift weights, run cross country and play high school and AAU basketball so that fatigue does not defeat me.
  9. The weaknesses of my golf game are:

    a) chipping
    b) trajectory control
    c) need more tournament competition experience which I will get this year

  10. I think my golf game will continue to improve because: I think my golf game will continue to improve because I have a very well-rounded game and solid fundamentals. I hate to lose and I have a desire and need to improve my game and be supportive of my teammates. I will gladly spend the time and give the effort to working on all aspects of my game. I also have an excellent personal coaching staff.  Golf is my sport, my passion, and my hobby.  I enjoy many other activities but my love of golf makes me strive for excellence.
Personal Statement
I am a believer in Jack Nicklaus's theory that people with positive attitudes are rare.  Having a positive attitude about golf and life is often the key to success to both.
